Kazakhstan may extend grain and flour export restrictions

Kazakhstan may extend the restriction on grain and flour export until September. This was reported by Minister of Agriculture Yerbol Karashukeyev in the Government. He stressed that grain and flour export quotas of 1 million tonnes and 300,000 tonnes will be valid until June 15. With a high probability they will be shifted until the beginning of autumn.

“The quota will be extended. It will end on June 15. We had it for grain of up to 1 million tonnes. We covered 40 percent of it and about 70 percent of flour. Currently we are making a decision, analyzing,” said Yerbol Karashukeyev, Minister of Agriculture.

According to the Agriculture Minister, in addition to the flour and grain quotas, the restrictions are also applied on other types of goods.

“At the moment, we now have quotas for meat, a ban on the export of meat, quotas for sunflower oil, potatoes, flour and wheat. There are duty-free import quotas for 360,000-350,000 tonnes of raw sugar, or pure sugar, therefore, presently quotas amounting to 250,000 tonnes have already been distributed. During the first distribution, 120,000-125,000 tonnes have been divided among sugar refineries and sugar producers. During the recent second distribution, quotas at 120,000 tonnes were also divided among traders, who import sugar,” added Agriculture Minister Karashukeyev.

According to forecasts of the Ministry, this year the grain harvest in Kazakhstan is expected to reach 13-13.5 million tonnes, 15 percent more than last year. Agrarians completed sowing strictly in optimal time. The work to preserve the accumulated moisture in the soil was also carried out on time. The forecast for June is also expected to be favorable, the minister stressed.
