Kazakhstan is developing a unified water accounting system,
as announced by the leadership of the relevant Ministry during a government
meeting. The platform is intended to function as a unified digital system,
integrating data on water facilities collected from satellites, hydrological
monitoring devices, and statistical agencies. The project was launched with the
support of a grant from the Eurasian Development Bank’s Digital Initiatives
Fund. The Ministry noted that systematic work is underway to equip more than
3,500 kilometers of canals with modern monitoring and management tools. By
2027, automated hydraulic gates are expected to be introduced across the
regions. It was also emphasized that priority is being given to the use of
domestically manufactured equipment in project implementation. According to the
Ministry, the adoption of modern approaches and resource-saving technologies is
expected to significantly improve the accuracy and targeting of water
distribution.
«Providing the population with access to quality drinking
water is one of the top priorities. This issue is under personal control of the
Head of State. The necessary funding has been allocated in the national budget.
Additionally, as part of the President’s directive to return illegally
withdrawn assets to the country, over 160 billion tenge have been allocated
from a special state fund to implement around 230 water supply projects.
Regional administrations have been instructed to ensure that all ongoing drinking
water supply projects are commissioned by the end of the year,» noted Kazakh
Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov.
