Kazakh President awards workers of transport sector

Today, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev congratulated transport workers on their professional holiday. More than 770,000 people are employed in the sector. The Head of State emphasized that they make a significant contribution to the country’s development and stressed the transport sector’s strategic importance as a key indicator of economic growth. Kazakhstan is one of the key transit hubs of Eurasia, with ongoing work to develop the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which facilitates cargo delivery between China, Central Asia, and Europe. Last year, in partnership with China, a transport and logistics centre was opened in Xi’an. Kazakhstan has now begun a consistent modernization of its transport corridors infrastructure.

«In the near future, the length of Kazakhstan’s railway network is expected to increase significantly. Renovation work will continue on 11,000 kilometres of rail lines, and 5,000 kilometres of tracks will be newly built or modernized. A major project — the Trans-Kazakhstan railway corridor — has been launched. On my instruction, construction is underway on the 323-kilometer Moiynty-Kyzylzhar line,» Tokayev said.

Another key area that requires special attention is the machine-building sector, the Head of State said, noting the importance of developing local production. For example, a plant in Astana produces freight and passenger electric locomotives. Such enterprises will receive state support, the President emphasized. Other priorities of the domestic transport policy include developing and modernizing the road network and air connectivity.

«Another important task is the development of air cargo transportation and the establishment of Kazakhstan as a leading aviation hub in the region. The government has announced plans to create a national cargo airline. Overall, the development of civil aviation and air freight in Kazakhstan goes far beyond transport functions. It represents a strategic vector that directly impacts the country’s economic growth, international positioning, and the strengthening of national sovereignty,» Tokayev noted.

During the solemn ceremony, Tokayev personally presented state awards to outstanding workers of the sector.
