President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev held a meeting with Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN
Under-Secretary-General and High Representative for Disarmament Affairs. The parties
discussed the prospects for comprehensive cooperation between Kazakhstan and UN
institutions in ensuring regional and international security, disarmament, and
non-proliferation of nuclear weapons. The Head of State reiterated the
country’s principled stance on these issues, particularly in light of current
global events. Additionally, tomorrow marks the International Day against
Nuclear Tests, which aims to remind humanity of their dangers. President
Tokayev also highlighted the UN’s exceptional role in addressing contemporary
issues and emphasized its irreplaceability. For her part, Izumi Nakamitsu
praised Kazakhstan’s leadership in global nuclear non-proliferation efforts and
the growing role of the country as a middle power.
