Two bronze assyks uncovered in ancient settlement of Kazakhstan

Two bronze assyks (knucklebones) were discovered by archaeologists at the medieval settlement of Kesken-Kuyuk in the Kyzylorda region. According to Kazakh scientists, the casting technique used in their production involved a special mold, resembling the bone of small cattle. The artifacts provide evidence of the ancient origins of the Kazakh game, dating back to the time of the Oghuz state. Other items found during the archaeological excavations include copper coins, bronze clothing hooks, and beads.

«The jewelry found during the excavations indicates that these were unique works of local artisans. This was the heyday of the Oghuz state, a time when crafts were actively developing here. It also marks one of the stages in Kazakhstan's history and cultural development,» noted Askhat Sailau, Scientific Secretary at the Kyzylorda Regional History and Local Lore Museum.
