Uniting two cultures: artist Amangeldy Shakenov’s exhibition opens its doors

An exhibition featuring renowned artist Amangeldy Shakenov has opened in Omsk, Russia. The display includes 50 paintings and graphic works created throughout the artist's career, ranging from his first diploma painting, «Zhailau», to his final piece, «Bata». The exhibition also features works from the Omsk Museum and the artist’s family collection. According to the organizers, Amangeldy Shakenov's work has significantly contributed to the development of contemporary art in Russia and Kazakhstan, serving as a bridge between the two cultures. Despite living and working in a neighbouring country, Shakenov frequently turned to the history and life of the Kazakh people in his artwork.

«When talking about his passion for his work and love for his homeland, one can consider the reflections of his colleagues, who referred to him as an artist of two cultures. He had an exceptional talent for capturing the landscapes of our country and a deep love for rich and beautiful themes of our Kazakh national culture, mountains, and steppes. All of this is powerfully reflected in his works,» said Omsk resident Askar Raissov.

«This year, students from our three best art and graphics departments were awarded the Shakenov scholarship. It is both a great honor and a source of pride for us because it was established in memory of Amangeldy Shakenov. Now, in Omsk, there is not only a monument to him but also a scholarship in his name,» noted Torgyn Ashenova, the editor-in-chief of the «Omby Qazaqtary» newspaper.
