Transport and agriculture sectors among drivers of Kazakhstan’s economic growth

In Kazakhstan, the reconstruction of four key motorways has been completed. These are Karagandy – Almaty, Taldykorgan – Oskemen, Aktobe – Kandyagash, and Atyrau – Astrakhan. According to the Ministry of Transport, this year, repair work covered a total of 12,000 kilometers. Significant work has been done in railway construction and renovation of transport infrastructure, with over 1,000 kilometers of railways reconstructed and rolling stock updated. Meanwhile, Kazakh airlines expanded their international route networks and acquired new aircraft. The construction of new terminals at the airports of Almaty, Kyzylorda, and Shymkent was also finalized. As a result of such work, the country has increased the volume of cargo transportation and transit of goods.

«Overall, the volume of transport services in monetary terms increased by 13 percent to 7.7 trillion tenge. Freight transportation showed notable growth: road transport rose by 19.8 percent, and pipeline and rail transport also saw increases. Domestic transportation grew by 8.8 percent, transit freight – by 6.1 percent, and container transit – by 8.7 percent,» said Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Maksat Kaliakparov.

The agricultural sector also showed good results this year. Since the beginning of 2024, the gross output volume has increased by nearly 13.5 percent to around 8 trillion tenge. According to the relevant department, such indicators were achieved due to increased production in crop and livestock farming.

«We see growth in this sector throughout the year due to grain and oilseeds processing and sugar production. To prevent a slowdown in the growth rate of the sector’s development, next year, the volume of financing for spring field and harvesting work will be increased to 700 billion tenge, with 200 billion tenge allocated for preferential leasing of agricultural machinery,» noted Kazakh Vice Minister of Agriculture Azat Sultanov.
