Transit transport volume in Kazakhstan reached 33 million tonnes last year,
marking a 20% year-on-year increase. In the first quarter of 2026, the figure
rose by a further 14%. Gross output in the transport and warehousing sector
totaled just over 12 trillion tenge in 2025. From January to March this year,
the sector recorded growth of nearly 13%. These figures were presented at a
government meeting chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, dedicated to the
development of the country’s transit and transport potential. Key topics
included infrastructure modernization, sector digitalization, and increasing
the industry’s contribution to the economy. The meeting also reviewed projects
at internal EAEU border crossings. Construction work has been completed at two
checkpoints, while another 37 are scheduled for modernization by 2027.
Particular attention was given to the development of the Trans-Caspian route,
including reducing delivery times, introducing through tariffs, and integrating
digital systems with partners. Following the meeting, Bektenov instructed
officials to strengthen oversight and accelerate the implementation of all
infrastructure projects, including those in maritime and air transport. He also
emphasized the importance of expanding the capacity of border crossing points
to 100 million tonnes annually. This is expected to boost international
transport and simplify border crossing procedures.
