The volume of freight traffic
along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) may reach 10
million tonnes, which is facilitated by demand and technological capabilities,
as noted by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in an interview with the
Azerbaijani news agency. According to the Head of State, the cities of Astana
and Baku are taking comprehensive steps in this area, a tangible evidence of which
is the adopted at the end of 2022 and designed for six years roadmap for the
synchronous elimination of bottlenecks and the development of the Middle Corridor
through the territories of Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkey. In 2022, the
volume of freight traffic along this route doubled, and in 2023, it increased
by another 65 percent to 2.7 million tonnes of cargo. This indicates that the
role of the TITR in promoting and developing transcontinental trade has grown
rapidly.
