In Astana, a flower-laying ceremony was
held at the monument to Talgat Begeldinov, a twice Hero of the Soviet Union, in
honor of his birthday. Members of the city’s ethno-cultural associations, the Council
of Elders, youth, and representatives of the Astana mayor’s office came to pay
tribute to the memory of the legendary attack pilot. Begeldinov made more than
300 combat sorties and personally shot down seven enemy aircraft. After World
War II, he continued to serve his country in the air force and contributed to
the development of Kazakh aviation. Begeldinov passed away at the age of 92 but
the memory of the national hero always lives in the hearts of Kazakh citizens.
«He graduated from the Moscow Institute of
Civil Engineering and began working in Kazakhstan in the field of civil
aviation. He was involved in the construction of airports and runways. He also
built the original runway here in Astana, as well as in several other cities in
Kazakhstan. Thus, he contributed significantly not only with his heroic deeds
during World War II but also with his efforts after the war for the country,»
said Sansyzbai Yessilov, chairman of the Council of Veterans in Astana.
