Kazakh conservation initiative recognized in global environmental competition

The Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative, a Kazakh project aimed at protecting and restoring flora and fauna, has gained international recognition. It has been named one of the 15 finalists for the prestigious Earthshot Prize. The initiative was launched in 2005 to preserve and restore the endangered saiga antelope population. Thanks to these efforts, the number of saiga antelopes has grown to nearly three million, an unprecedented figure. Altyn Dala and its partners are also working to revive other priority endangered species, including the steppe eagle, kulan, and Przewalski’s horse. The Kazakh initiative will compete with projects from the UK, Ecuador, and Peru. The award ceremony will take place on November 6 in South Africa.
