Summer Deaflympics medalists honored with state awards

Today in Astana, Kazakhstan honored its national athletes who competed in the 25th Summer Deaflympics in Tokyo. On behalf of the President of Kazakhstan, Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov presented state awards to the medalists. The Deaflympics brought together around 3,000 athletes from 81 countries. The Kazakh national team delivered strong results, confidently ranking among the top teams and finishing ninth in the overall medal standings. Kazakh athletes represented the country in eight sports, winning a total of 25 medals — eight gold, four silver, and 13 bronze. At the award ceremony, Bektenov highlighted the athletes’ contribution to strengthening the country’s international image and emphasized that these achievements are the result of systematic efforts to develop the sector and support athletes with special needs.

«I would like to give special recognition to our deaf judo athletes. Their outstanding performance brought Kazakhstan 11 medals and became one of the highlights of the Games. These results reflect a high level of preparation and the ability to successfully meet the most demanding sporting challenges. The government will continue its systematic efforts to create comfortable and accessible conditions for participation in physical culture,» Bektenov said.
