The construction of a new string
of the Bukhara-Ural gas pipeline has commenced in Kazakhstan. The total cost of
the large-scale project is about 43.5 billion tenge. In total, it is planned to
build 165 km of the main gas pipeline. The commissioning of the facility is
scheduled for next year. The new gas pipeline will meet the growing needs of
the city of Aktobe and reduce the burden on the existing infrastructure, as
well as provide an opportunity to implement 17 major investment projects worth
over three trillion tenge.
“Aktobe city and its surrounding
areas are now supplied with gas via three strings of the Bukhara-Ural and
Zhanazhol-Aktobe main gas pipelines. The region needs an increase in gas supply
capacity due to local economic development and population growth. A new
investment project, which should be fully financed within two years, is
currently being implemented. The annual capacity of the third string of the gas
pipeline will be 2.4 billion cubic meters. The new gas pipeline will ensure the
growing needs of Aktobe city as well as enable the implementation of other
major investment projects,” said Alikhan Smailov, Kazakh Prime Minister.
There are also plans to increase
the capacity of the Aktobe-Karabutak-Ulgaisyn highway, which is part of the
Western Europe-Western China international transport corridor. The traffic intensity
along this highway section is very high, with nearly 16,000 vehicles, including
4,000 trucks daily. During the reconstruction works, 262 km motorway will be widened
from the current two to four lanes.
