SCO member states’ energy cooperation

The Strategy for the SCO Development of Energy Cooperation approved at the Astana Summit will provide an additional boost to cooperation in the fields of oil and gas, electricity, and renewable energy sources. Iran intends to work with Kazakhstan in these areas, as stated by the West Asian country’s Acting Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri Kani in an exclusive interview with Silk Way TV channel.

«We believe that the decisions made in the SCO regarding oil and gas and at the same time the approach adopted regarding these issues in the international arena are of very high significance. Today, a very significant and key document regarding strategy was signed by the heads of the SCO member states, which will define a road map for the upcoming cooperation. Iran and Kazakhstan in different sectors and areas enjoy excellent bilateral relations. Energy is one of the most important areas of cooperation between our two countries, especially the fossil energies as well as renewable energies,» Ali Bagheri Kani said.

India also aims to strengthen energy relations with Kazakhstan, which is a reliable partner for the South Asian country in ensuring the supply of oil, gas, and other energy resources due to the substantial natural resources in the energy sector.

«We are definitely looking forward to taking this relationship further. Kazakhstan is a big energy producer. Kazakhstan also has many natural resources. I am sure if we have long-term arrangements we will see a very sustained oil trade, the same in uranium. Indian tourists today are going out in very large numbers. So, I’m sure you will see more tourists from India. We have great respect for Kazakhstan’s leadership in CICA,» said Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Indian Minister of External Affairs.
