The 20th International Zhautykov
Olympiad is taking place in Almaty, Kazakhstan. It brought together more than
600 school students and 85 teams representing 16 countries, including
Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan,
Bulgaria, Tajikistan, Mongolia, Georgia, Serbia, India, and Romania. This year,
the event is being held offline after a three-year online period. As part of
the Olympiad, a traditional competition covering three subjects is conducted
among specialized physics and math schools. It comprises two stages –
theoretical and experimental. The results will be summed up individually for
each subject, and the best teams will be selected. The Olympiad is aimed to
identify talented school students and promote knowledge in the fields of
physics and mathematics.
“This year, participants included
413 school students from abroad and 257 from different regions of Kazakhstan. The
win at the Olympiad will be recorded in the portfolio and give prize winners
the opportunity to enroll in the best world universities. During the candidate
selection process for university admission, winners will have great chances to
be considered for educational grants,” said Meirlan Meirbek, principal of the National
School of Physics and Math.
