In the first nine months of the year, Kazakhstan generated
approximately 6 billion kWh of electricity from renewable energy sources,
accounting for around seven percent of the country’s total electricity
production. According to the relevant ministry, wind and solar power plants
produced the most energy, followed by small hydropower plants. Currently, there
are 148 stations operating in Kazakhstan, with a combined capacity of 2.9 GW.
The country aims to increase this figure, with plans to raise the share of
renewable energy to 15 percent by 2030. To support this goal, new facilities
are being built across the country, with six projects—five hydropower plants
and one wind power plant—set to be commissioned by the end of the year.
