A historical and documentary exhibition has opened at the Archive of the President of Kazakhstan in Astana, marking the 85th anniversary of the formation of the legendary Panfilov Division and the heroic feats of its soldiers. It features over 50 previously unknown archival materials, including rare photographs of Bauyrzhan Momyshuly and Malik Gabdullin, the personal file of Major General Ivan Panfilov, wartime reports, documents on the division’s formation in Almaty and the combat history of the 316th Rifle Division, as well as newsreel footage. The exhibition is timed to coincide with Defender of the Fatherland Day and Victory Day. According to the organizers, it aims to recount the story of the Panfilov soldiers as well as pass on their legacy of memory and respect to younger generations.
«Among the documents and unique archival materials, particularly
noteworthy are photographs preserved from that period – specifically, images
capturing the formation of the division, its preparation and training, and its
exercises in the city of Almaty. This initiative is aimed at fostering
patriotism and engaging young people with significant historical events,» noted Aliya Mustafina, Director of the Kazakh President’s Archive.
