Kazakh peacekeepers received high praise from the United
Nations for their bravery and determination during their mission in the Golan
Heights. Over the course of a year, they successfully completed around 560
tasks. The Kazakh military personnel monitored compliance with the ceasefire
agreement between opposing forces, conducted mobile patrols in the controlled
territory, and carried out the clearance of unexploded ordnance. Notably, the
mission became the first independent operation of Kazakh peacekeepers under the
flag of Kazakhstan. According to the memorandum of understanding and the
mission’s mandate, the Kazakh contingent plays a key role in ensuring stability
and security in the region.
«We completed over 550 tasks, including more than 45 patrols
along the buffer zone and the borders of two states, carried out three
evacuations, and completed over 15 tasks. We also neutralized more than 2,050
unexploded ordnance. Amid the height of the armed crisis, over 20 UN
representatives were successfully evacuated from the Syrian capital, Damascus,»
said the commander of the national peacekeeping contingent Zhiger Aipov.
«I had an absolute pleasure of working with KAZCON
(Kazakhstan Contingent) since July last year. The things that I’ve been
absolutely impressed by is the professionalism, dedication and also the amount
of work that they did during the time of hard tension in December was
absolutely impressive. I have an absolute full confidence in KAZCON and FRC’s
abilities of the last twelve months and I am sure that the next contingent
coming in will be the same,» said Michael Finch, Chief Operations Officer,
UNDOF.
