During his meeting with President
Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highlighted
Singapore as a time-tested and reliable partner of Astana. The countries are
actively increasing the mutual trade volume, which is expected to exceed $2
billion soon. President Tokayev stated that Kazakhstan stands ready to open a
new chapter in bilateral cooperation, underscoring the country’s interest in
expanding partnership in such areas as critical raw material processing,
infrastructure development, digital economy, energy, logistics, and education. For
his part, Tharman Shanmugaratnam praised the development of cooperation between
Kazakhstan and Singapore. At a meeting with Singaporean Prime Minister Lawrence
Wong, the parties discussed the complementarity of the economies of the two
countries. Wong marked that Singapore could act as a gateway for Kazakhstan to
expand interaction with the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), while
Kazakhstan could help Singapore build stronger ties with Central Asian
countries. President Tokayev’s state visit resulted in the signing of six
documents on cooperation in various spheres.
