The Kazakh Parliament has ratified an intergovernmental
agreement with Qatar on expanding military cooperation. The document, signed in
Doha last year, provides for partnership in the transit of military equipment,
use of airspace and training grounds, and language training for personnel. The obligations
specified in the agreement include ensuring compliance with the protection of
confidential information and regulation of issues related to customs procedures.
The countries will also conduct mutual consultations on peacekeeping and combat
training, planning to establish a joint working group for coordination. The
parties have signed the agreement for a five-year term, with automatic
extensions for the same period unless one of the parties intervenes.
«The agreement provides for a wide range of
cooperation areas, including military education, medicine, science, and combat
training. It also creates a platform for joint exercises and experience
exchange, enabling both parties to significantly enhance the professional
training of their armed forces. Consultations on peacekeeping operations
highlight their commitment to global peace and security efforts. Ratifying the
agreement marks another step in strengthening bilateral relations between
Kazakhstan and Qatar, opening new prospects for defense cooperation and bolstering
their positions in the international arena,» said Andrei Lukin, member of the Senate,
the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament.
