Constructiveness and focus on a
mutually acceptable result are important features of the Kazakh-Russian
dialogue, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said in an interview with the Russian
daily newspaper Izvestia. The Head of State noted that this year marks the 10th
anniversary of the signing of the Treaty on Good-Neighborliness and Alliance in
the 21st Century. The document plays a very symbolic role, as it emphasizes the
aspiration of bilateral relations for the future. Tokayev also outlined the
agenda of the upcoming meeting with the Russian President in Astana. The
leaders will discuss political, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian
cooperation.
“We will consider aspects of
interaction within international organizations and integration associations,
and exchange views on the current state and prospects for the development of
the international situation. A separate point on the agenda will be Kazakhstan’s
participation in the 19th Interregional Cooperation Forum. This is a unique and
very effective format that helps to fortify horizontal ties between the regions
and entrepreneurs of the two countries. This year, the forum is held in
Kostanai city, with a theme centered around cooperation in agriculture. I am
confident that the forum, as well as the forthcoming visit of the Russian
President to Kazakhstan, will be successful and fruitful,” Tokayev said.
According to the Kazakh
President, the modern world will regain its equilibrium through strict
adherence to the norms of international law. In general, achieving long-term
sustainable peace requires the fulfillment of two conditions, namely a readiness
for mutual concessions and a firm commitment to international law. The latter
point is one of the key aspects of Kazakhstan’s foreign policy.
“I firmly believe that any
contradictions must be resolved in accordance with the norms and principles of
the UN Charter. This document was adopted by the global community after the
deadliest war in human history. Unified and unambiguously interpreted rules
were established in the international arena to prevent such tragedies from
recurring. It was a remarkable triumph for the principles of humanism and
benevolence. There is still no better recipe for overcoming conflicts in the
world,” the President added.
