Performance of Kazakh athletes at Winter Olympics in Beijing

Kazakh skiers completed their performance in classical style at the Winter Olympics in Beijing and didn’t enter the top 50. Angelina Shuryga showed the best result, she took the 52nd place. Ksenia Shalygina became the 53rd, Nadezhda Stepashkina came the 57th, and Valeria Tyuleneva - the 59th.

“The conditions are not easy, of course, it is difficult to pick up skis, grease, so that classic skis hold and ride. In addition, this gusty wind that starts just unexpectedly, chaotically. Height, of course, plays a huge role, because it greatly affects the feeling,” said Valeriya Tyuleneva, a Kazakh cross-country skier.

On the 7th day of the competition, Kazakh athletes will perform in four sports.  These are cross-country skiing, biathlon, short track and ski jumping. Skiers Vitaliy Pukhkalo and Evgeniy Velichko have another opportunity to compete at the Olympics in an individual race with a separate start of 15km in the classic style. Kazakh ski jumpers Sergey Tkachenko and Danil Vasilyev will be able to compete for entry into the main round. They were able to show good results and pass qualification.
