The Kazakh applied folk art is worthy of becoming a global brand, the participants of the patchwork competition, which was held in Pavlodar region, believe. Young craftsmen demonstrated quick and most importantly beautiful techniques of embroidering patterns. For example, someone showcased small pieces, others – national handiworks designed for the ancient Kazakh tradition ‘Syrga salu’. Ulagat Zhumagaliuly is the only boy among the contestants. A teenager attending a needlework club dreams of becoming a famous designer in the future and conquering the fashion world.
“My teacher taught me how to use a sewing machine. I even know how to make a zigzag stitch. We embroider beautiful patterns and ornaments. I really enjoy doing this,” Zhumagaliuly said.
“Our task is not only to teach girls to embroider, but also to instill in them entrepreneurial mindset. On the eve of Nauryz, we are going to hold a fair where children can sell their products. This is how we encourage them to be hard-working,” craftswoman Malika Nakhipova added.
