Party list registration for Kurultai elections completed

The Central Election Commission of Kazakhstan has completed the registration of candidate lists from all seven political parties contesting the election of deputies to the Kurultai. One month before the vote, the final lineup of election participants has been confirmed. A total of 545 candidates will compete for 145 seats in the new unicameral Parliament. The final two party lists approved by the CEC were those of Auyl, which nominated 69 candidates, and Adilet, which nominated the largest number of candidates — 186. All candidates meet the constitutional requirements, and the mandatory quota for women, youth, and persons with disabilities has also been met, with these groups making up more than 47% of the total. Previously, Aq Jol, the Nationwide Social Democratic Party, Baytaq, the People’s Party of Kazakhstan, and Respublica had already completed the registration process. The election campaign will run from July 23 through August 22. During this period, political parties will present their election programs and meet with voters across the country. On August 23, Kazakh citizens will take part in the first election of deputies to the Kurultai.

«Eighty-six percent of our candidates are new faces. We have representatives from all key sectors of the country,» said Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, member of the Political Council Bureau of the Adilet Party.

«Our list includes entrepreneurs, business leaders, government officials, and civil society representatives. We will visit all 20 regions of the country to meet with voters,» said Kairat Aituganov, chairman of the Auyl Party
