«From Chronicle to the Future» film lecture series presented in Semei

The stories of people who witnessed key milestones in the development of independent Kazakhstan were presented to audiences in Semei through documentary films. The nationwide film lecture series marking the 30th anniversary of the Kazakh President’s TV and Radio Complex continued in the city with screenings of two documentaries. The first, «Aral», tells the story of Kuntugan Turgynbayev, who devoted more than half a century to fishing. The film highlights important issues related to the preservation of this unique body of water. The second film, «Sert», focuses on the 2024 floods and the people, volunteers, and rescuers who worked together to address the aftermath of the disaster and support those affected. Following the screenings, audiences met with the filmmakers.

«The documentary «Aral» left a strong impression on me. The drying up of the Aral Sea remains one of Kazakhstan’s most significant environmental challenges of recent decades. I was especially moved by the local residents’ deep love for their land. The documentary «Sert» highlighted the support the state provided to people affected by the floods and demonstrated how united our society was during that period,» said audience member Manarbek Satybaldy
