Parliament adopts amendments to intellectual property law

Kazakhstan will enhance mechanisms for protecting intellectual property rights. The Senate, the upper house of Parliament, has approved amendments to the relevant law. The new legislation introduces a unified digital platform to ensure transparency in the collective rights management system. Organizations managing property rights on a collective basis will be required to provide data on collected, distributed, and paid royalties, as well as on the rights entrusted to their management. The law is also expected to support the development of creative industries and promote creativity and innovation across the country.

«Furthermore, the amendments set out legal provisions clarifying the exclusive rights of broadcasting organizations and establish a new mechanism for the expedited examination of trademark applications. Special attention is given to ensuring access to information for people with visual impairments. The law is expected to give new impetus to the protection of intellectual property rights and the development of the creative industry,» said Senate Chairperson Maulen Ashimbayev.
