The Parliamentary
Assembly of the Council of Europe has expressed its support for the political
and constitutional reforms underway in Kazakhstan. A written declaration was
signed by 22 parliamentarians. The
document notes that the referendum held on March 15 marked an important step toward
implementing institutional reforms. The authors of the declaration also
welcomed Kazakhstan’s
efforts to develop a more balanced system of governance, strengthen
accountability mechanisms, expand citizens’ access to constitutional justice,
and enhance guarantees for the protection of human rights and freedoms. The declaration also highlights
Kazakhstan’s
cooperation with the Council of Europe and expresses readiness to continue supporting the
country’s
efforts to strengthen democratic institutions and the
rule of law.
