Over 80 investment projects to be implemented in Zhambyl region in 3 years

The construction of a new metallurgical complex has begun in the south of the country. Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov reviewed the start of construction of a full-cycle industrial facility during a working trip to the Zhambyl region. He was informed that the plant will be built with funds from a Chinese investor, with total investment amounting to $1.2 billion. The facility is expected to use environmentally friendly direct reduced iron (DRI) technology. Under the first phase of the project, the plant’s capacity is expected to reach one million tonnes per year by 2027, increasing to three million tonnes by 2029. Another facility planned to be built with Chinese investment is a corn deep processing plant. The complex will include a starch production unit and three biofermentation facilities. Commissioning is scheduled for 2026.

«Over the next three to four years, total investment is expected to exceed $1 billion. Around 1,000 people will be provided with permanent employment. Kazakhstan’s products are planned to be exported to China, Arab countries, and Europe,» noted Chairman of Kazakh Invest National Company Yerzhan Yelekeyev.

Notably, both industrial projects are being implemented within the Jibek Joly special economic zone. A total of 18 participants are registered in the zone. The enterprises are primarily engaged in the chemical and manufacturing industries, mechanical engineering, and energy — with a focus on export-oriented production.

«Nine factories are currently under construction, with a total value of around one trillion tenge. Last year, investment in economic zone projects amounted to 15 billion tenge, but this year it is expected to increase tenfold, exceeding 150 billion tenge. In total, 82 projects are scheduled for implementation between 2025 and 2028, with a combined value of 3.6 trillion tenge, including major projects worth over 50 billion tenge,» said Abulkhair Tamabek, Deputy Governor of the Zhambyl region.
