Flood control measures are
currently underway in the West Kazakhstan region. Thus, the protection of
strategically vital life support facilities has been strengthened. Extensive
measures are being implemented to safeguard water, heating, and electricity
supply in the city of Oral. All emergency crews are on standby, and all
utilities organizations are equipped with the necessary gear. Besides, shore
protection works along the Zhaiyk River include the construction of dams and
earth embankments, with flood-prone areas being filled with a mixture of sand
and gravel. Earlier, Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov inspected the
progress of work along the Zhaiyk, Shagan, and Derkul rivers, prioritizing the task to protect residents and their homes
from flooding. To date, the flood control task force in the West Kazakhstan
region comprises over 6,000 people and more than 1,500 units of equipment.
“At the moment, we have been
tasked with reinforcing the dam in the Pugachev area in Oral. About 60 people
have been deployed from our unit. Work is ongoing, and we expect completion
within two or three days. We have been working for about a month already,” said
serviceman Tlek Temiraliyev.
