First Agriculture Workers’ Forum held in Astana

The first-ever Agriculture Workers’ Forum was held in Astana ahead of the professional holiday of workers of agriculture, food and processing industry. It brought together over 2,000 participants from across the country. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke about the plans for the development of the industry. Over the 70 years since the beginning of the virgin lands campaign, Kazakhstan's agricultural sector has undergone substantial changes. Currently, the country ranks sixth in the world in terms of arable land and pastures. It is among the top ten largest wheat exporters and is a leader in flour exports. Kazakhstan leads the CIS countries in the Global Food Security Index.

However, President Tokayev emphasized the importance of continuing progress and outlined a range of new tasks. The agro-industrial complex should become one of the key drivers of economic growth. To achieve this, the accessibility of financing should be ensured. The sector will also undergo industrialization, digitalization, application of new technologies and scientific advancements. The latter will be used, in particular, to support horse breeding, with the opening of a new research institute for this purpose. Additionally, a new title, «Honored Worker of Kazakhstan’s Agricultural Sector», will be created to recognize the contributions of workers in this field. The Head of State emphasized that, going forward, an annual alignment of efforts between the government and agribusiness will be held at the forum. He also visited the exhibition of agricultural producers, where Kazakh companies showcased their products of deep processing, modern agricultural technologies, and achievements in crop production and livestock farming.
