Kazakhstan - regional leader in promoting democratic reforms

Kazakhstan is undertaking extensive democratic reforms and protecting human rights in full compliance with international commitments. To this end, necessary legislative conditions have been created, the Akorda press service reports. The country has become a regional leader in promoting democratic principles by implementing constitutional reforms to eliminate super-presidential powers, simplifying party registration rules, and expanding the powers of the Majilis, a Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament. The first-ever direct elections of governors and mayors were held in the country. The National Kurultai operates to involve the public in governance and decision-making. Reforms have strengthened the human rights protection system. Legislative amendments aimed at enhancing the independence of the judiciary have been adopted. The Human Rights Ombudsman institute is operating in the country, and the Constitutional Court has been reinstated, allowing all Kazakh citizens to directly address it.
