New vector of SCO economic cooperation

Kazakhstan is actively engaged in promoting integration and cooperation across the Eurasian region. Economic interaction largely depends on harnessing transit and transport potential, as President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev repeatedly emphasized. Given disruptions in traditional supply chains, there is a pressing need to develop modern infrastructure for routes and establish new competitive corridors. The special focus is placed on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), which lays the groundwork for unleashing the potential of the North-South and East-West corridors. At the meeting of the SCO Heads of State Council in 2023, President Tokayev proposed to establish a network of major ports and logistics centers as a practical step.

«The creation of ports is an extremely important task. Kazakhstan’s Aktau and Kuryk seaports on the Caspian Sea are undergoing modernization, including dredging operations. Thus, the development of these ports as part of the TITR’s expansion is a critical aspect in the context of the conjugation with the European Union, China, and our partner countries along the Caspian Sea. We aim to ensure the delivery of goods via this corridor in no more than 15 days,» said Kazakh Vice Minister of Transport Talgat Lastayev.

Experts note that transportation is becoming more multimodal, creating new opportunities for enhancing existing Eurasian transport networks and developing new ones.
