The Kazakh National University of
Water Management and Irrigation will be established in the city of Taraz. The
corresponding decree was signed by the country’s Prime Minister Olzhas
Bektenov. The new university will start operating in September and will train
highly qualified personnel for the water management and irrigation system. The
new educational programs include Water Management and Land Reclamation, Geodesy
and Cartography, Hydrotechnical Construction in Water Management, Engineering
Water Supply Systems, and Innovative Technologies in Water Management. It is
known that a quota of 245 places for the state educational order has been
allocated for the upcoming academic year. Notably, President Kassym-Jomart
Tokayev previously instructed to take measures to restore and provide the
M.Kh.Dulaty Taraz Regional University with appropriate material and technical resources.
Following this, the Kazakh Government decided to redesign the Dulaty University
and establish two universities there.
«By order of the Head of State,
the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation is participating in the
establishment of the National University of Water Management and Irrigation in
Taraz. Currently, we are assessing the need for new specialties in the water
sector, identifying priority areas, and developing educational standards together
with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The goal is to begin student
admission this year,» said Nurlan Akhmetov, chief expert at the Kazakh Ministry
of Water Resources and Irrigation.
