Nearly 100 CIS observers to monitor referendum in Kazakhstan

Around 100 observers from the CIS will monitor the referendum on the new Constitution in Kazakhstan. The mission headquarters is located in Astana, and the first observers have already begun their work. More than 10,000 referendum polling stations will open across the country. Most will be located at voters’ registered places of residence, over 600 at places of temporary residence, and more than 80 abroad. Citizens can check their assigned polling station through special online services. Temporary registration will also be available on voting day. Nearly 12.5 million Kazakh citizens are eligible to take part in the vote. For the referendum to be recognized as valid, more than half of registered voters, about 6.5 million people, must participate. The new Constitution will be considered adopted if more than 50% of all voters cast their ballots in favor. The results will be announced within seven days.
