Mukhtar Tleuberdi meets with UN chief

Kazakhstan is ready to further expand the supply of agricultural products to the world market, as well as to provide assistance in international humanitarian aid to Afghanistan. This was stated by Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Mukhtar Tleuberdi at a ministerial meeting held at the United Nations in New York entitled “Global Food Security Call to Action.” The international meeting brought together the countries most prone to food shortages and the states that play an important role in ensuring global food security. According to the UN, 44 million people in 38 countries are on the verge of starvation and more than 811 million people are malnourished. Tleuberdi also met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres. The parties discussed the dynamics and prospects of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UN.

“Kazakhstan is deeply concerned that armed conflicts remain a major factor causing aggravating food insecurity and malnutrition with the increasing number of people requiring urgent food aid. COVID-19 has further exacerbated the hunger. Under these circumstances Kazakhstan calls on all parties to armed conflicts to comply with their obligation under international humanitarian law,” said Mukhtar Tleuberdi, Kazakh Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister.
