President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev
chaired a meeting of the National Council for Science and Technology at the
Akorda Presidential Palace. Highlighting the increasing global prominence of
countries focusing on scientific progress, he emphasized the need for advanced
achievements to serve the country’s interests. It is crucial to maximize the
use of scientific capabilities in predicting man-made and natural disasters, Tokayev
said, adding that Kazakhstan will restore the Hydromelioration and Construction
Institute in Taraz and fortify the Institute of Seismology to this end. He
stressed that new ideas and developments should contribute to the country’s
economy, necessitating scientific projects with potential for
commercialization. Scientific councils will be formed under local authorities
for this purpose. The President placed an emphasis on artificial intelligence,
whose strategy is already in progress under the government’s direction,
alongside a Digital Code. In support of young scientists, the Head of State
proposed introducing foreign internships under postdoctoral programs and
implementing a mechanism for training industrial PhDs. The suggestions
presented by scientists will be taken into account, Tokayev assured.
