IT medical specialists will be trained at Astana IT
University (AITU), where Kazakh students will be able to pursue a double-degree
program. The new department is set to open in 2025 in partnership with the
University of Debrecen. Notably, there is already interest in this specialty
from India, and as early as the next academic year, thousands of students may
come to the capital to study. This was announced during the opening of two research
and innovation centers at the university. The first will focus on developing
scientific and production projects using artificial intelligence, particularly
in transport, urban infrastructure, and agriculture. The second, MedTech, will
work on cutting-edge solutions involving digital technologies and neural
networks for telemedicine. These include advanced mobile medical devices,
electronic medical records, and systems that support faster and ultra-precise
patient diagnostics. University students presented their innovations during the
centers’ presentation. Many of them have received grants for development and
commercialization and are already entering the market.
«Students present their inventions that involve the
application of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and neural networks
within the FabLab. Displays will showcase the projects they created. These
include ready-made solutions, such as a manipulator—a robotic arm—that the
students program themselves. Each year, around 10 to 12 teams compete for
grants, and we select the best ones for funding,» said Andrii Biloshchytskyi,
Vice-Rector for Science and Innovations at AITU.
«This grant is from program-targeted financing and the
ministry. At this stage, we are focusing on breast cancer detection. As this
issue is highly relevant and the number of patients is increasing, we decided
to apply artificial intelligence. Starting in 2025, our Kazakh scientific
centers, oncology centers, and others will provide us with data as part of our
collaboration,» noted Tomiris Zhaksylyk, research assistant at AITU.
