Law on military-patriotic education sent to Senate

Kazakhstan plans to establish a unified system of military-patriotic education. Coordination councils will be created to help build a positive image of the national army. The country intends to adopt a more flexible approach to military training. Those liable for military service will be able to take paid courses in their place of residence. Today, the Mazhilis, the Lower House of the Kazakh Parliament, adopted a law on military-patriotic education. The document has been sent to the Senate, the Upper House of the Kazakh Parliament, for consideration. According to the draft law, the conscription process will also be simplified, military registration will be automated, and the grounds for deferral of service will be reviewed. The draft law also includes amendments that provide for the transfer of part of the state defense procurement authority from the Ministry of Industry and Construction to the Ministry of Defense. Overall, members of the Mazhilis emphasize that the legislative innovations aim to raise the prestige of military service and will not require additional budget expenditures.
