Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, and Afghanistan to build new railway line

Kazakhstan was invited to participate in the construction of a railway line through Afghanistan. This will significantly enhance the attractiveness of the Turghundi – Herat – Kandahar – Spin Boldak corridor, as noted by Mammetkhan Chakyev, Director General of the Transport and Communications Agency under Turkmenistan’s Cabinet of Ministers, on the sidelines of the first transport trade and export forum in Aktau. Representatives from Kazakhstan, Afghanistan, and Turkmenistan discussed the possibilities of implementing a new railway project. The countries plan to create a logistics center in Turghundi, with construction set to begin soon. Additionally, the parties intend to build facilities for the transshipment of grain, containers, and other goods. The logistics center is expected to boost cargo traffic through Turghundi after the project is launched. Afghan representatives expressed their readiness to facilitate cargo transit through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan to Pakistan and showed interest in importing Chinese goods through Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The Kazakh delegation also held a meeting with an Iranian delegation to discuss the progress of their joint plans to enhance transport and logistics infrastructure.
