Kazakhstan’s National Team topped the medal standings at the
Asian Youth and Junior Weightlifting Championships, held in Astana. The
athletes claimed a total of 21 gold, 12 silver, and 17 bronze medals.
Competitions took part in two classic disciplines – the snatch and the clean
and jerk. Kazakh athletes also set multiple Asian and world records. Among them
was Yedige Yemberdi, who set new records in both the clean and jerk and the
combined total, earning him the championship title.
«I competed at the 2022 championship, which was held in
Tashkent. I took part in the under-73-kilogram weight category - part of the
old classification. I also set world records in both the clean and jerk and the
total. Back then, I was in the youth division, and now I’m competing as a
junior - a bit older and more experienced,» Yemberdi said.
Kazakhstan hosted this prestigious continental tournament
for the first time in 12 years, bringing together more than 300 of the
strongest young athletes, aged 14 to 20, from 25 Asian countries. As the host
nation, the Kazakh team was one of the largest in the competition.
«But now what is happening, especially in Kazakhstan, is
something extraordinary. This is the first time we have athletes in Kazakhstan
make this good result. And good luck! We hope for gold medals in the Olympic
Games in Los Angeles,» said Mohamed Yousef Al Mana, President of the Asian
Weightlifting Federation.
«First, I would like to thank for wonderful and amazing
organization, starting from the airport until the hotel. I hope many stars from
Kazakhstan here in this competition will be qualified for the Olympic Games
2028 in Los Angeles,» said Mohammed Jalood Al Shammari, President of the
International Weightlifting Federation.
