Kazakhstan to use AI to assign conscripts

Kazakhstan will use artificial intelligence (AI) to assign conscripts to military branches. The country’s Ministry of Defense is developing a new digital platform to replace the outdated conscription system by enabling a personalized selection based on an analysis of candidates’ personal data, including place of birth, education, marital status, height, weight, and other characteristics. Based on this information, the system will help accurately assign conscripts to the most suitable military units. The platform is scheduled for launch by year-end.

«We are already working within an electronic system that allows us to determine who is subject to conscription and who is not. The latter are primarily students and individuals with disabilities, who are placed on a separate list. In addition, we send SMS notifications to students informing them that they are not required to report to military enlistment offices. Now, however, we want to go a step further - the system will assist us by enabling a more targeted selection of conscripts,» noted  Kazakh Deputy Defense Minister Darkhan Akhmediyev.
