Kazakhstan is set to launch a unified automated information
system for libraries. With the introduction of the E-ABIS platform, the rarest
and most unique items from the country’s book collection will be stored in a
single national database. Overall, the digital platform will streamline and
automate library operations.
«The entire financial support package for the project is now
ready, down to the methodological guidelines. We have developed unified
operating rules for public libraries. In cooperation with our second National
Library, we are providing documentation support to the Committee overseeing
these matters,» said Gaziza Nurgaliyeva, Head of the National Library of
Kazakhstan.
There are approximately 4,000 public libraries in
Kazakhstan, with a total collection exceeding 72 million items. Among these are
around 14,500 manuscripts and rare books. Notably, the digital transformation
of libraries is one of the main priorities in the roadmap for their
modernization from 2025 to 2027.
