Kazakhstan to join international protocol on water and health

Kazakhstan will gain access to advanced technologies and expertise in the purification and delivery of safe drinking water, as well as in the treatment and reuse of wastewater. The Mazhilis, the lower house of the Kazakh Parliament, has ratified the Protocol on Water and Health to the 1992 Convention on the Protection and Use of Transboundary Watercourses and International Lakes. This will enable the country to participate in developing joint monitoring and early warning systems, as well as emergency response plans. Notably, the Protocol is the world’s first international agreement linking water supply, sanitation, hygiene, and public health. Its primary goal is to protect human health through the sustainable management of resources.
