Kazakhstan will introduce a molecular genetic test for
people seeking Kandas status without documents proving their Kazakh
nationality. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate knowledge of the Kazakh
language, traditions, and customs in interviews conducted offline or online to
obtain the status. The country’s Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the
Population has developed specific rules. Thus, special commissions from local
authorities, comprising representatives from local executive bodies on
migration, education, national security, internal affairs, non-governmental
organizations, public associations, and experts in state language and history,
will determine Kazakh nationality. The relevant project is now under public discussion. Since the beginning
of the year, about 6,000 ethnic Kazakhs have received Kandas status in the country, with more
than half coming from China.
