On August 10,
Kazakhstan marked the 180th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and thinker
Abai Kunanbaiuly with grand celebrations. This milestone is only the beginning –
more than 5,000 events are planned across the country throughout the year.
Among them are over 100 large-scale international and national gatherings,
including competitions, aitys contests, poetry festivals, a research
expedition, concerts, and performances. According to the relevant department,
the anniversary is not only a tribute to the founder of Kazakh literature, but
also an expression of respect for the nation’s past, present, and future.
«Today, events have
been held in all regions of the country, in educational institutions,
libraries, cultural centers, and research organizations. Across the country,
citizens are launching various wonderful challenges to promote the great poet’s
legacy and poems. Schoolchildren, representatives of different ethnic
communities, art enthusiasts, and prominent cultural figures are actively
joining these challenges,» said Yerlan Dakenov, Chairman of the Committee at
the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information.
