Kazakh-language dub of «Mufasa: The Lion King» captivates audiences

The film «Mufasa: The Lion King» has won over Kazakh-speaking audiences as the third Disney project officially translated into the state language. Renowned Kazakh theater and film actors provided the voices, while local performers recorded the vocal parts. Yerassyl Mukhamadiyev, a dubbing professional with over three years of experience, voiced the main character.

«I was thrilled when I learned I had been cast to voice Mufasa. If I am not mistaken, the first part of «The Lion King,» a feature film, was released in 2019. To prepare, I rewatched it to immerse myself in the atmosphere and capture the character's communication style. Perhaps that is why it was not difficult for me to voice my character,» Mukhamadiyev shared.

Previous Kazakh-dubbed releases, «Inside Out 2» and «Moana 2,» also grossed millions in box office revenue and set records in Kazakhstan. Dubbing director Shah-Murat Ordabayev noted that today Kazakh-speaking viewers can watch quality content in their native language.

«One of the biggest indicators is viewer demand. When there’s interest, it validates our work and motivates us to continue. We are among the countries where Kazakh has become the 39th language of official dubbing,» Ordabayev said.

As of this year, Hollywood studios have begun funding the dubbing of blockbusters into Kazakh, catering to both children and adults. These films consistently draw large audiences. Since 2011, major international studios have dubbed dozens of projects into Kazakh.
