Kazakhstan to create strategic uranium reserve for nuclear power plants

Kazakhstan will create a strategic uranium reserve for nuclear power plants, which will be stored in the form of unenriched ore, according to the Ministry of Energy. The country already produces finished nuclear fuel. The construction of nuclear power plants will allow for the efficient use of domestic resources to ensure internal energy supply. The Kazakh President emphasized the need for building three nuclear power plants during the National Kurultai (Congress). A detailed analysis will be conducted to determine the locations for the second and third plants. Kazakhstan currently ranks first in the world in uranium production, accounting for 40% of the global market, and holds 14% of the world’s explored reserves of this metal.
