New airports to be built in Kazakhstan’s resort areas

Three new airports are set to be constructed in Kazakhstan’s resort areas of Zaisan, Katon-Karagai, and Kendirli. Earlier, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev instructed to unlock their potential and build terminal complexes and airports. The implementation of the projects has already begun. These airports will play a crucial role in ensuring access to the resort areas, which will contribute to the influx of both domestic and international tourists. Moreover, this will generate a multiplier effect on the economic development of the regions.

«The parameters for the airports have already been defined: 2,200 meters in length, 35 meters in width, with a capacity of 150 passengers per hour. They are designed for Q400 aircraft, which are operated by Qazaq Air, enabling direct flights to Astana and Almaty in the future. The land plots and locations for these airports have been identified, and work is underway to formalize the land and develop the design and estimate documentation,» said Sarsen Zharylgassov, Acting Chairman of the Civil Aviation Committee at the Kazakh Ministry of Transport.
