Kazakhstan to build three hydropower plants

Kazakhstan plans to build three small hydropower plants in the Karagandy, Aktobe, and Abai regions. According to the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the projects are currently undergoing state review. The initiative is part of the roadmap for the development of small hydropower plants. To date, 29 suitable sites have been identified. Once completed, the plants are expected to generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity annually.

«Currently, the Kazvodkhoz enterprise operates three small hydropower plants. They are located at the Sergeyev hydraulic structure in the North Kazakhstan region, the Intumak Reservoir in the Karagandy region, and the Dostyk hydraulic complex on the Khorgos River,» said Maksat Ibragim, chief expert at the ministry’s Irrigation and Drainage Division.
