Kazakhstan to build new reservoirs

According to the Kazakh Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, four new reservoirs are set to be built in the country’s south: Akmola, Kalguty, and Karaozek. These reservoirs will help compensate for water shortages during the growing season, covering nearly 23,000 hectares. The construction of the fourth reservoir, Bolshoi (Big) Uzen, is planned in the West Kazakhstan region. It will retain flood and melt water, helping prevent the threat of flooding of two villages. By 2028, the country intends to build 42 reservoirs, reconstruct 37 hydraulic structures and 14,000 kilometers of irrigation canals.
